Meet your Doulas

Bailey & Gail

Hey families!

We are so overjoyed to be joining you on this journey. We offer birth and postpartum doula support. We have completed training for each area through DONA and have crossed trained for enhanced labor skills through ProDoula and have become certified for labor.

We founded our relationship as friends during our training. It was often that we would go to each other for support in the beginning of this journey into birth work. Our values continued to bring us closer until we were called to form our doula partnership. Both of us are guided by our Christian faith in our work and we are prepared to incorporate this within care of your family as much as you would like.  We feel there is value in having a team of two doulas. That is twice the amount of support during your journey, two perspectives to help you navigate this season of life, and two more loving hands to care for you along the way.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

"I had the incredible privilege of having Bailey assist me during my postpartum stage, and I cannot emphasize enough how invaluable her support was. Bailey went above and beyond in every aspect, seamlessly managing everyday tasks like cleaning and tidying up, ensuring a smooth environment for our growing family.

What truly set Bailey apart was her genuine concern for my well-being as a mother. From diligently refilling my water bottle to handing me my baby to facilitate breastfeeding, she displayed a level of attentiveness that is often overlooked in postpartum care. Her thoughtful questions about my emotional and physical state reassured me that someone was looking out for me, not just as a parent but as an individual navigating the profound changes that come with motherhood.

Her unwavering support postpartum has convinced me that she will be an essential part of my future birthing experiences. I wholeheartedly recommend Bailey to anyone seeking compassionate and comprehensive postpartum care. Her dedication and genuine concern makes her an invaluable asset during the delicate and transformative period following childbirth."

Gail was my doula for my VBAC attempt with my second pregnancy after a planned cesarean with the first. She was wonderful about listening to what I wanted in my birth plan and understanding where I was flexible and how to react when things changed. She was knowledgeable about common procedures and asked my doctors questions I would not have considered. She stood up for me when my doctors were pushing for things to happen before I was ready. Gail was prepared with a backup doula when (for reasons outside of her control) she had to leave for a portion of my labor.

We also used Gail as a postpartum doula. She eagerly dove into our household routines to see where she could add value. I had a very difficult recovery and Gail helped me with tasks that seemed insurmountable with my limitations. We were so thankful to have her provide us with some rest. Our toddler asked for Ms. Gail to come over and play for months afterward.

I was hesitant at first about hiring a doula because I wasn’t exactly sure what a doula was, and how helpful or impactful they would be. Boy, was I silly for having any doubts. My sister helped us find Bailey and she told me that she’d trust Bailey with her life. Such a high compliment, for such an important and large life event.

From the moment we first met with Bailey, we knew she was the perfect match for us. The way that she intently listened to us and took note of all of our questions and concerns, was unbelievable. Throughout my entire pregnancy and into the labor, I was very nervous for plans to change, and of course they did. Bailey was there to ask questions that we didn’t even know we had, advocated for us, even braided my hair to make me feel like a human again. The way she goes above and beyond is unmatched.

When things went south, she reassured us that however our it happens, we still get our baby in the end. Before, during and even after we got home, she was always checking in to see how we were doing, and asking us if she could help us find resources close to where we live. Looking back now, I cannot imagine going through this without her.

With this being our first baby, it was also great having her there for education purposes and talking about all the options and choices we have. Bailey will forever hold a special place in our family, and we are eternally grateful for her guidance and support. We look forward to hiring her again for any and all future births we go through.

To anyone who is hesitant or wanting to learn more about how valuable having Bailey involved in your pregnancy and birth, you are in the best, most caring hands out there. She truly is there through every happy and crappy that comes with the physical, mental, and emotional body changes.

I can't recommend Gail enough as a doula. I had a very positive birth experience and Gail was a big part of that. My husband and I were looking for a partner to help us process all of the information coming at us as we prepared for baby and to help us navigate the birth process. She was exactly what we needed.

As I started to research and seek out doulas in the metro Detroit area, I knew that it would be important for me to find someone with the right personality for me. Immediately from my first meeting with Gail, I felt at ease and comfortable with her.

Throughout our birth, Gail helped us keep track of important moments, remind me of the things that I had told her were important to me, and generally to strategize in the moment. She was easy going and assertive at exactly the right moments--always making sure that I was comfortable and that my voice was heard/the preferences that we'd discussed at length beforehand were considered. It was so helpful having someone grounded there to help us remember what we'd talked about and respond to everything as it came at us.

I couldn’t have asked for a better doula! I hired Bailey towards the very end of my pregnancy because I started to get a little nervous about having a non medicated labor in a hospital. Bailey was warm, knowledgeable, and so supportive throughout my pregnancy and especially my labor and delivery. I was in labor for 52 hours and Bailey was asking me to come the entire time I finally broke and needed support to get through and she stayed with me for over 24 hours helping me every step of the way. I wouldn’t have been able to do a non medicated labor without her! She’s the best, no hesitation!

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Bailey during my second pregnancy this past year. She was such a calm caring presence during that time, which was very needed for me as I navigated through this pregnancy after a traumatic delivery with my firstborn. I thought I overcame those fears but as I moved closer to my due date I was overcome with worry and flooded with the memories attached to those worries. Luckily, Bailey was there providing me with education and resources to guide me through obstacles. Many meetings turned into just me crying and her listening and reassuring me that I will be in good hands. When it became evident that I was going to deliver via cesarean again I was devastated. Bailey remained positive and tried to keep my focus on being excited to meet newest little blessing. She checked in on me and was genuinely interested in what was going on throughout the pregnancy. I didn’t realize how lucky I was to have her around until the day of the surgery. My first c-section was emergent and I was totally lost and my husband and I had no clue what was happening. This time around, Bailey was with us, walking us through what the nurses were doing and what to expect before, during and after. She was so knowledgeable and patient. Always had a smile on her face. Answered all our questions. Kept everyone in the loop as acting liaison. I was so worried about her because I kept thinking “gosh I hate to waste her day like this” but I am truly grateful she was with us. Thinking back, what sticks out most is how she amplified my voice. I wasn’t feeling the best post c-section and there were times I would think no one heard me because I could barely open my eyes let alone speak loudly but Bailey never left my side and heard every word and would then immediately let the providers know. She sat next to me until I was able to sit up on my own which took several hours! She watched me while everyone’s attention was on the baby. She fed me and that humbled my hyper independent self a lot. I cry thinking back about the level of compassion she had. She was my introduction to doulas and what a delight. Grateful!

Lucked out incredibly by finding Gail. It wasn't until our 4th baby that we heard about a postpartum doula and I must say, it made all the difference! I wasn't sure how I would feel postpartum about someone being in our home to help, as I tend to want to do everything myself and definitely not ask for help. Gail made me feel so comfortable and reassured that she had everything handled. Probably the first time I ever really let my guard down. She was so great with our whole family! Her services are really full scope from taking around the clock care of the baby, helping with household chores, meals, doing crafts with our other children, etc.; all allowing me to rest, recover, and establish a new routine -- not to mention a great conversation partner. I've never had an easier time being postpartum. All thanks to Gail!

Early in my pregnancy I decided I wanted a doula to help me make informed decisions, know my options, and feel empowered during my pregnancy, labor, and delivery. After our first meeting with Bailey and Gail, we knew they were the perfect fit! They made us feel so comfortable, assured, and never judged.

They provided so much support throughout my pregnancy- coming to our house for multiple visits to form a birth plan, checking in after each OB visit, and providing invaluable resources and information for any questions I had. This was an added bonus as I had no idea how much peace their support would give me through my pregnancy, and how much I needed that!

When it came to my labor, Gail was an absolutely godsend. She was in it with us from the beginning answering late night calls/ texts and helping guide me as a first time mom who was anxious and eager! She respected my wishes, and helped articulate them to our medical team in a way my husband and I would not have been able to. She brought so many tools, tips, and tricks to the labor room, and helped remind me to breathe and take my time before making any decisions. This was so helpful in an environment that can feel so pressured and rushed! I had a long labor, and Gail was there talking me through it and supporting me every step of the way. She even kept our family in the loop, and was always looking for ways to help take things off our plate!

After our daughter was born, she consistently checked in and answered questions. She even came to our home to debrief and talk about my birth which was so therapeutic!

I cannot recommend Gail enough! Trust me when I say you will not regret having her as part of your doula team. I know that God willing we will be using her for future pregnancies without a doubt!

Hiring Rooted Doula was one of the best decisions I made during pregnancy and postpartum. They were incredible from the very beginning—helping me create a birth plan, answering all my questions, and making me feel confident going into labor.

My labor lasted nearly 40 hours, and having their constant support, encouragement, and guidance made such a difference. After delivery I had complications and had to return to the hospital, and they still showed up for me—checking in, visiting, and offering support when I needed it most.

Their postpartum help was equally amazing, assisting with breastfeeding, laundry, meals, bottles, and even caring for the baby so I could rest. Truly compassionate, knowledgeable, and above and beyond care.

Gail is amazing! My pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience with my second daughter was so beautiful, calming and peaceful - and Gail is one of the main reasons for this.

Gail was there to coach me prenatally - to think through all options and provided education and resources to assist me in my decision making. She was also an amazing support to me during labor and delivery - I had the most wonderful birth experience this time around and even with having to be induced, it still aligned with the vision that I talked about with Gail. Gail also ensured that we got a positive start to breastfeeding, by advocating for us and providing additional resources and education.

She was a huge help postpartum as well with coming to our home and providing care for our girls, and being a wonderful support person for me - it all made a such a positive difference. Having experienced labor, delivery, and postpartum both with and without a doula - I can confidently say that having a doula, specifically Gail, is an absolute game changer! She is a must have and if we continue to grow our family, will definitely be using her again!

Labor involves a cascade of hormones. These hormones, when the birthing person remains calm and feels safe, can create a smooth labor process. The birth team and environment can support this by helping the birthing person feel loved, cared for. When fear creeps in, the catecholamines work in opposition to the oxytocin. The catecholamines can come from many things like unresolved fears or concerns, a strange environment, past trauma, a change in circumstance. Also of note, when labor is induced or augmented with a synthetic form of oxytocin, like Pitocin, the body may experience an increased pain sensation. Since the Pitocin was not produced by the body, it does not cross the blood brain barrier in the same way. This affects how the body responds with endorphins, which may lead to a need for increased external pain relief. Birth is unpredictable, but the innate trust in the birthing person's abilities, the birth process and the support of the birth team can lead to incredible experiences.
